Eggs in a Hole
If you have already traveled to the United States, you have probably had what Americans call eggs in a hole for breakfast. And if you have not yet visited the land of Uncle Sam, this recipe is a great opportunity to try them at home.
The recipe for eggs in a hole is very simple and only requires eggs and sliced bread in your kitchen cupboard.
If, like me, you are not really into savory breakfasts, you can easily turn this breakfast recipe into a brunch, lunch, or dinner idea. It is ready in just a few minutes, which is one of its main advantages — besides being delicious.
Ingredients for one toast (multiply as needed)
– 1 egg (organic if possible — it really tastes better)
– 1 thick slice of sandwich bread (I used whole wheat bread)
– 10 g butter
– Salt and pepper
Method
First, cut a hole in the middle of your slice of bread. You can use regular sandwich bread, but I personally prefer whole wheat — it is simply a matter of taste. To make the hole, I used a glass.
Next, melt the butter in a hot frying pan so the bread can toast nicely. Place the bread in the pan and let it brown gently. Then flip the toast over and crack the egg into the hole. Season with salt and pepper to your taste.
You can either leave it cooking like that or flip the toast a third time if you like your egg well done. Today, I added a few pieces of Gruyère cheese, and we had our eggs in a hole for lunch with a salad.
Of course, you can add extra ingredients if you like, such as fresh herbs, bacon, lardons, sun-dried tomatoes, asparagus, mushrooms, or onions.
This eggs in a hole recipe is really fun because in just a few minutes you can make a complete breakfast or easy meal with only a few basic ingredients.
Enjoy your meal!
