It is impossible to come to Pensacola without visiting the National Naval Aviation Museum<\/strong>, located on the country\u2019s oldest naval air station, the Naval Air Station<\/strong>, built in 1914. This military base welcomes no fewer than 6,000 young aviators in training every year. The aviation museum is therefore part of a military complex, and you will be asked for identification at the entrance, so remember to bring it with you.<\/p>\n

Inside the Naval Air Station, there is a part closed to the public and a part that is accessible and offers several sites worth visiting. You will notably find Fort Barrancas<\/strong>, the Pensacola Lighthouse<\/strong>, and the National Naval Aviation Museum<\/strong> of Pensacola with the famous Blue Angels<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Fort Barrancas<\/h2>\n

This nineteenth-century fort was built by slaves. It is possible to go inside and walk through its long galleries beneath the arches. There is a visitor center with brochures to help you do a self-guided visit, or you can also join a guided one. Fort Barrancas is classified as a National Park site and is part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore.<\/p>\n

Pensacola Lighthouse<\/h2>\n

To enjoy a beautiful view over the Gulf of Mexico, you will need to climb the 177 steps of the historic Pensacola Lighthouse. The site is also known for its ghost-tour legend, with some considering it one of the most haunted lighthouses in America.<\/p>\n

Blue Angels<\/h2>\n

The Naval Air Station hosts the US Navy\u2019s elite flight demonstration squadron, the Blue Angels<\/strong>. You can watch their demonstration flights every Tuesday and Wednesday morning from mid-March to early November. To observe them, head behind the parking lot north of the National Museum of Aviation. Autograph sessions are organized almost every Wednesday after training. In the Blue Angels Atrium<\/strong> part of the museum, you can discover four A-4 Skyhawks displayed in the air.<\/p>\n
