It is also an important family holiday, and many families gather for a traditional meal built around a large ham served with corn and green beans.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/floridaandbeyond.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/newport-bunny-e554e0d67db453d0-1024x722.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>We celebrated Easter in the United States for the first time in 2017. At first I thought it would be just like in France, with church bells and chocolate eggs hidden in the garden, but there are a few differences.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/floridaandbeyond.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/20170404_163341-1024x723.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Here, Easter is celebrated on Sunday and Monday is not a public holiday. And it is not the bells that bring eggs to children, but the Easter Bunny, who is almost as famous as Santa Claus.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/floridaandbeyond.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/20170404_163438-1024x576.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>In the days before Easter, you can even find the Easter Bunny in malls or supermarkets so that children can have their picture taken with him. The origin of this rabbit tradition is said to come from German immigrants who brought it with them in the eighteenth century.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/floridaandbeyond.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/20170404_163410-1024x496.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Of course there are Easter eggs, but in the United States they are often plastic shells rather than real eggs. They are filled with chocolates, candy, and especially the famous Peeps marshmallows, those sugar-coated marshmallow chicks and bunnies in bright colors. There are also many prepared Easter baskets combining sweets and small toys.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/floridaandbeyond.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/20170404_162307-1024x499.jpg\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/floridaandbeyond.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/20170404_162317-1024x752.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Huge egg hunts are organized almost everywhere: on sports fields, in malls, in churches, and even in some residential communities. Because our community is large and very family-oriented, a big egg hunt was organized on Saturday morning. The children were divided by age group and, at the whistle, they all ran off in search of the plastic Easter eggs. The scale of these events is often very American: everything feels XXL.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/floridaandbeyond.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/20170404_162305-1024x473.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Easter is also celebrated every year at the White House with the Easter Egg Roll on the White House grounds. To take part, you have to enter a lottery, and we will probably try it one day just for fun.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/floridaandbeyond.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/20170416_091422-1024x625.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Americans are big kids at heart, so on Sunday morning both children and adults may hunt for Easter eggs in the garden or even inside the house. Our children adapted to the tradition very quickly.
