Sanibel<\/strong> and Captiva<\/strong> are among the most beautiful barrier islands on the southwest coast of Florida. They appear in most travel guides, and I can confirm that they are well worth the detour if you are in the area. Since we live nearby, we go there from time to time, usually out of season to avoid the crowds.<\/p>\n

To reach Sanibel Island, you cross the Sanibel Causeway<\/strong>, which is already a beautiful experience in itself. The views over the water are magnificent, and the approach immediately sets the tone. Access to Sanibel and Captiva is not free, so it is worth planning for the toll.<\/p>\n

One of the strengths of the islands is the variety of beautiful public beaches. Names worth knowing include Tarpon Bay Beach<\/strong>, Bowman\u2019s Beach<\/strong>, Turner Beach<\/strong>, and Lighthouse Beach<\/strong>. Each beach has its own character, but together they create the image of the islands: white or gray sand, a relaxed atmosphere, and shells everywhere in some areas.<\/p>\n
